The Parker Damon Library is a space shared by McCarthy-Towne School and Merriam School. Our combined collection of almost 30,000 books and periodicals is available to all staff and students from both schools. Each school has its own Library Media Assistant responsible for operating the library, training volunteers and assisting staff and students.

All McCarthy-Towne classes visit the library on a scheduled basis once per week. Kindergarten classes are in the library for a half-hour, and grades one through six come to the library for a 45-minute class. Library time usually starts with a read-aloud and book discussion. Students are then given time for book selection, independent research and reading, and book checkout.

The goals of the library are:

  • to foster a love of reading and an appreciation of a variety of literature;
  • to introduce students to various library skills helping them to become knowledgeable and independent library patrons;
  • to acquire and maintain an up-to-date, balanced collection of resources that supports the curriculum and student and staff needs and interests.

The library is open during normal school hours. Our phone number is 978-264-4700 x 3707.
