 Principal’s Message
Welcome Back! - I hope you all had a restful winter break and are safe and warm in this snowstorm. I am excited to see our students tomorrow! I recently wrote to the teachers that January to April is my favorite time in schools because students tend to grow tremendously during this time. Each year, I am amazed to see students grow as thinkers, mathematicians, writers, and readers! I love witnessing how they are changing and becoming more confident. The joy in seeing them do things now that they struggled with in the fall is amazing!
All this change can also raise questions about the milestones students reach at each age. We, our staff at McT, often refer to Chip Wood's book, Yardsticks, to reassure ourselves that these different stages are, in fact, very typical and find strategies that help. Our social-emotional approach, Responsive Classroom, also uses Chip's book and posts helpful articles for each age. I have included them below in case they are helpful to you at home.
Assistant Principals Announced - As many of you know from Peter Light's messages, our assistant principals have been announced and shared. Jenn Giusto, our assistant principal, will serve as the Upper School assistant principal at the Parker Damon Building. I am thrilled to continue working with Jenn. She brings a love of learning, organization, and a deep connection to our students to her work, and I feel fortunate to learn from and with her!
Literacy Week - March 9-13th - Every year, our Reading Committee, led by Laura Martin, helps students and staff celebrate books, reading, and Literacy Week. This year it falls on March 9-13 at McT! Monday - Hygge Day - Students are invited to wear PJs and get cozy with books Tuesday - Book Art Day - Students will create art using their favorite book as inspiration Wednesday - Dress like your favorite character day! Thursday - March Book Madness - students will vote for their favorites in a reading bracket and are invited to wear clothes representing their favorite teams! Friday - Favorite word day - dress/wear your favorite word! |
