Educating the whole child is crucial to the educational philosophy at McCarthy-Towne. Learning in a variety of disciplines and in diverse ways is integral to our core curriculum. Students receive weekly classes in Visual Arts, Physical Education, Library and Music. Technology is integrated into classroom curriculum, with the guidance of specialist teachers, using current devises such as Chromebooks, MacBooks, and iPads. Art Integration is also a regular part of the curriculum, allowing students to deepen their knowledge of specific units of study. Specialist teachers make interdisciplinary connections to the classroom curriculum, as well as between their disciplines. Whether learning research skills in library class, making Mars Rovers in visual arts class, or learning a Japanese song in music class, student learning is enhanced. Common language, such as pattern, form, rhythm and texture, helps students understand the connections between the disciplines and strengthens understanding across the curriculum.
